About MandoLessons

My name is Baron Collins-Hill and I started MandoLessons in 2008. When I started learning to play the mandolin in the year 2000, I turned to the internet for help. Through sites like Mandolin Cafe and YouTube I was able to piece together the information I needed to learn new tunes, techniques, and find answers to the questions I had. MandoLessons is my way of giving back to the community that I have learned so much from.

For many years, MandoLessons was funded through advertising that appeared both on the site and on the videos. These ads detracted from the overall experience of the site, and added unneeded complexity to what I envisioned as a very straight forward, accessible website. In 2014, I started an experiment to see if the site could be sustained on a model of patronage rather than on advertising. Those who enjoy what I post on this website can support me by making a donation.

My lessons will always be free and available to anyone who wants to learn. If you are in a situation that doesn’t allow you to support MandoLessons financially, I don’t want your money. However, if you are interested in supporting the site, donations are greatly appreciated. I offer several ways for you to donate on the left hand side of the page.
